Real Food Lunch

As part of Beyond Recycling, students have been looking at the environmental foot print that is often associated with many foods that travel great distances.  In addition, students have been learning about the "extra" stuff that is being put into food (food colouring, preservatives, etc.).  The goal for this lunch was to eat local, healthy food.  Thanks to all the students and parents for sending in food and drinks!  The students had a great time and have been learning a lot!

Basketball Team: Grade 4/5

As many of you are aware, our Grade 4/5's recently played two basketball games against Canyon/Lister Elementary School.  I am proud to say that out of 22 players, 18 players came from our class.  It was fantastic group to coach and I look forward to seeing our Grade 5's play Grade 6/7 basketball next year!

A big thanks need to go our to Mr. Wegener.  Not only did he attend all of our practices and games, he provided great coaching and even bought students a Dilly Bar for all their hard work! Below are some pictures of the game.  Unfortunately I cannot post the team picture as I do not have consent from the students in other class.  If you are wanting a copy, please let me know and I can email it to you.

Using Kinects

With our upcoming unit on Simple and Compound Machines starting after spring break, many students have already began exploring the connects.  Below is a picture and a short video clip on what they have been up to.

Logan, James, David and Heath.  Aidan from Mrs. Walker's class helped to build the bridge.

Short video clip up the bridge and vehicle in action!

Read-A-Thon

Thanks to all the students and their parents for all the hard work they put into Read-A-Thon.  Experts agree this one simple thing students can do to improve their reading:  PRACTICE!

When the Read-A-Thon began, a calendar of events was created with the class.  Many students asked for a top prize for those readers that went above and beyond expectations.  While in class we decided that the top three students, the race for fourth place was so close that I decided to add an additional prize.  Below are the pictures of the four students who read the most minutes in the class!  Keiryn came in first with over 3 400 reading minutes!

Here is a picture of those students who read over 1 000 minutes!

Here is a picture of those students who met our reading goal for the month.  The aim was for 15 minutes
each night.

Since our class met the overall goal, our original goal was to celebrate with a Bowling party.  Unfortunately, that is no longer open.  As a result, students voted to watch a movie instead.
