Science Test on Natural Resources: Friday April 5, 2013


Student have been working on Renewable and Non-Renewable Resources for the past 6 weeks.  Students have been working very hard and will be asked to show their learning in two ways.
1.  Quiz:  Below is a study guide for the quiz on Friday.  Students will go over the answers in class and will be expected to study in class (time will be given) and at home if they are wanting to be successful.
2.  Project:  Students will be doing a project on one natural resource of their choice.  Students have the opportunity to create a poster, provide a presentation (either on the movie camera or live), or can talk to the teacher if they have another way they would like to present their learning (example:  powerpoint).  Criteria for the project will be given on Tuesday.
 
Study Guide- Science Test on Natural Resources


1.    The students will be expected to give the definition of renewable and non-renewable resources.

Renewable resources can replace themselves.

Non-renewable resources cannot reproduce or renew themselves. Once they are used they are considered gone forever.

 

2.    The students will be asked questions regarding all the resources we have studied; salmon, forestry, water, minerals and fossil fuels.

a)    The different ways salmon is preserved.

b)    What type of salmon is usually farmed in BC?

c)     What are the traditional Aboriginal methods of conserving Cedar trees and salmon?

d)    What are the methods used to log in BC?

e)    Describe the advantages and disadvantages of hydroelectricity.

f)      What minerals are found in BC?

g)    What are the different methods that we use to extract minerals in BC and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

h)    Be able to rank the fossil fuels in terms of cleanliness.

i)       Be able to define what ore is and

j)       Describe why cedar trees don’t rot after cutting them

 

Questions will be fill in the blank (20 marks) and True/False (5 marks)

Car Show

Students were given 2 hours to create a Car Show Theme.  Each Car show theme was marked by
 Mr. Bartraw's Grade 6 class based on established criteria.  Students had a lot of fun creating their themes!
